Hey. Hobo have you ever worked on 1982 era Chrysler 2.6 Mitsubiit engines, especially their Mikuni carburetor ?

I acquired Lebaron convertible recently.
Just finished changing timing chains and runs like a dream.

Have to do some work and have some problems finding vacuum parts.

Any advice will be appreciated. Thanks.

gee wiz.

after days of google searching, I made a purchase for one of em. hope iit be the right part. has to come
all the way from Australia.

please reserve one of Yours as a back up. I will not know for about 2weeks or so.

meantime thanks for your consideration.

happy Holidays to You and Yours.
John

Thanks Hobo.........
My choke is operated by the thermal wax choke system. however, I read that the choke should be set
for cold temperatures manually. At 30 deg. Temp the choke needs adjusted for a clearance distance of a
certain value from the throttle opening. I think the setting should be 1/8 in. Or so.

I still have the choke set for summer setting. which is a different setting for 50 deg. Or above. There fore
I guess it is called "seasonal changeover.

The part I ordered is called "secondary throttle diaphragms"
The car sat garaged so long that the three vacuum diaphragms have rotted out , according to my hand
held vacuum tester. Secondary, egr valves, etc.

I have excellent vacuum upon initial start up, then when the water temp. Warms up, not much at all
except the necessary at manifold. Brakes, interior ventilation, etc
So, I will slowly make it better, however, for now, the car is serviceable for stand by use.

thanks again.

Hobo.....
I will need a spare choke pull off for my 1980 Ford E150 service van.
I can regulate the vacuum diaphragm for the amount of movement of the vacuum diaphragm .

maybe I can retrofit this type of vacuum diaphragm for one that is rotten on my Chrysler Mitsibit.

I saved the life of the engine from being destroyed by
me changing the timing chains. close call. the one chain guide had been broken for quite awhile.

The Miticbutsi Engine was pioneered during Ww2 on their Zero airplane.

my goal is to keep this Chrysler as Oem as possible. all original except for 1 small bolt.

Ref: Mr Lee Iococa. chairman of the Board, Chrysler Corp.

I will return now for active duty.

Merry Christmas

retty surethose Zeroes were atad over 2.6 liters.

That Mikuni carb was the first step towards training people for fuel injection.
The choke on that carb would automatically close overnight and slowly dribble one squirt of fuel into the engine overnight.
Next morning, the owner gets in and just turns the key without having to pump the gas pedal to set the choke.
Biggest problem was the choke pull off vacuum diagram would go bad and the choke would not open once the engine was started and running.
Last I saw, Standard ign products was making a choke pull off for the Mikuni. However, that was a few years ago before obsoletum set in.
When the pull off is no longer available, you can always pull the choke butterfly and drill a hole or two into it to give it the air flow it needs.

(quoted from post at 19:15:47 12/19/19) Google says 1000+hp, 14 cylinder radial.
"From the late 30s right up to maybe 1943 in the Pacific Theater, we couldn t really compete against it, until our F6F Hellcat," says Steve Barber, wing leader of the Commemorative Air Force World War II museum in Camarillo, California. Barber pairs the American and Japanese fighters in mock dogfights at airshows. Despite original landing gear, cockpit, and most instruments, the museum uses a Pratt & Whitney R1830 radial engine.

"Of course, the first ten Zeros which flew had American engines," says Barber. "Since we were nice enough to sell Japan some Pratt & Whitney engines, they turned around and essentially copied them, which is why the parts are nearly interchangeable today."

ery interesting tv show on us recovering one almost completely intact &fixing it to fly and study weaknesses and strengths , then building our planes and training pilots to take advantage of such.

Thanks Bruce.

I will try to make it happen. 😏 Easier to make new butterfly than finding parts.
my Chrysler 1982. 2.6 is of VIN of D. sorta rare up North.

Merry Christmas.

just received my part from Austriailia.

Howdy.......
Down at NASPensacola. air museum........
I always stressed the NEED for our aviators to "they had to try everything possible to bring those BIRDS
back on deck when THEY were done doing what THEY had to do."

Stll, today, we find another bird that went into the "drink", trying to accomplish their MISSIONS

EPILOGUE

This carburetor will need a complete tear down.

The LeBaron sat so long, garaged, that this new gas (corn liquor) has its mold covering everything.

moral to the story: make sure you drain down the carb of YOUR. "N" and keep the Clutch depressed for that LONG TERM storage!,

IWill check in with ya,s in the SPRING.

THANKS.
