550 front PTO lever

550 Front PTO lever
Does anyone have photos of one of these on a tractor? The partsbook online doesn't let me get my head around how this should look. Parts are missing for sure. I just picked up a 550 and i think the PTO engagement lever is in front, ahead of my right knee. It's missing part of the latching linkage and the stop that the linkage engages to lock the PTO out; I think..but I've never seen one and so I'm looking for a visual image

PTO stays engaged all the time; so either something is worn or adjustment of the clutch needed; but first want to get the lever/linkage sorted out.

I'll try and snap a few pictures, it's a nifty little guy.

Hello, I just made one for my 550 a few months ago. I could get some measurements if you like. The parts book picture is sideways. There is a bracket and an adjustable striker to hold the lever back. The bracket fastens to the 2 10-32 screws that hold the cowl on, on the side of tractor.

Ahhhhhh. I was lookin at the image of the rear lever and not drawing the conclusion that the other one was the front mounted. After looking at that; i think I'm only missing the spring, and, the part that bolts onto the tractor that it latches to; think I can make that easily enough.

I spent an hour backing the PTO clutch off--it was amazingly tight, so tight I was having a lot of trouble making any progress. Now things snap the way they should (thanks to everyone on this forum that's explained the 550 clutch adjustment.. that really helped). I found a whole mouse nest in the clutch housing in addition to the skeletal remains of the mouse.. Excellent!

On mine couldn't get the little push button apart, to replace spring. Put a coil spring on outside of handle to keep the latch latched

Looking at mine, it is also missing the spring and I was looking; appears to me if you knock the roll pin out of the latch, you should be able to pull the button out and re-spring it; though maybe that rod tha actuates the latch threads into the base of the button.. which means it's probably frozen stiff...

The spring is probably still there just rusted and broken into several pieces. That 3/16 rod threads into the bottom of button, I think. You might get lucky and unscrew it.
