Hydraulic or electrical chain saw

Anyone having mounted a chainsaw on a long boom from a skidsteer to trim tree limbs. Did you drive it with skidsteer
hydraulics or electricity? How did you mount a hydraulic motor to drive a saw chain?

Best way to do it depends on your fabrication abilities and your skid steer capabilities. Hydraulic is the best way to go if you have the third valve. I built one for one of my inlaws and fabricated my bar mount in the shop and bought a high speed hyd motor from Surplus Center. The sprocket bar and chain are all mechanical harvester components that I sourced on Ebay. Lacking the ability and machine tools to fabricate the saw head go to Ebay or Craigs list and punch in "hydraulic chain saw", there are a lot of hydraulic bucket saws around for sale. Pick one that fits your budget and needs and adapt it to your boom. A 12Volt powered saw is either going to draw a LOT of amps or be pretty wimpy in the cut. I did read of one guy that used a 110AC saw and a generator. However you go be sure to use heavy components because when you pinch the bar, and you will pinch it, your going to stress things heavily when you try to free it. How often? My inlaws keep a spare bar and chain in the skidsteer,,,

I mounted a snapper mower deck on my FIL. Cuts branchtes up to one inch and 10 ft off the ground. Powered by 6,5 hp Briggs.Belt slips if I get into something too big.
