My buddy wants to know....is it possible to put new brake linings on a D17 without pulling the final drives? Also, what would you suspect the problem is with a D17, supposedly just overhauled with low oil pressure (5lbs. at normal operating temp)(this tractor has ran for a couple of years like this)This guy farmed with it like that, said he put 40wt. oil in it and it was ok...what do you suspect could be wrong? It runs fine, sounds good, he needs a starting place to fix it. thanks for any help.

i don/t think thats possible, get a new gauge, it might have low psi but. if he worked it at all. he would have burned it up at that oil psi. but thats just myu thought on this , good luck

allis engines get thier oilpresure through the cam. Most likely your problem is there, warn barings or cam.As for the brakes, depends on the serial number of your tractor.

I would cast a vote for either having shims under main caps where they weren't needed or putting standard bearings on a crankshaft that was ground undersize. Also maybe crank was ground and the old bearings were put back in. I know, nobody would do that.

Check to make sure the oil filter tube and oil lines are correct. Try putting another washer under the releif valve spring too.

Your oil pressure may be caused by worn camshaft bearings. If the D-17 is a series III or IV yes you must pull the final drives. I had a brake go out in my D-17 one spring and I pulled it apart and put in new linings in one day. I slept well that night! Check out an I&T manual for details.

if your d17 is a early model you can install new linings by taking off covers on both sides of seat just watch how old ones come ou
