I have a 1943 VAC with block casting #VT-149, and it is cracked between every sleeve from top to bottom. Is this common? Are these blocks hard to find? Has anybody had any experience welding one up?

If they are cracked in the webbing you will probably also find a frost crack behind the carburator. They generally do not crack the webs unless the block has somehow been stressed - usually by frost.

If they are in the webbing as you describe, they are not uncommon. The Head Gasket will seal them over. We "V" them out with a Die Grinder & fill them with J-B Weld. They won't bother.

Here's the problem John, the block is also cracked at the bottom of the sleeves and it was pissing oil into the water jacket from the center main oil galley.
