Re: 2470 power shift, will not come out, IT's OUT! in reply to Mike S 806/H, 06-19-2006 19:28:28
Ok I got the power shift unit out tonight, I had all the bolts/tubes out, the only way I could get it to move was to have my dad pry on the gear and trans housing then I took a small punch and had to tap on the bearing, That bearing was a tight fit in the housing but I guess thats a good thing, I only had 1st in the power shift, no 2nd or 3rd, now to take it apart, Thanks for the replys, Mike

There are (3) 1/4" allen bolts that you have to acess though the planetary carrier input tube gear with a 4 or 5" long 3/16 allen wrench. you have to turn everything just right to see them. They hold the carrier on the rear bearing, they have to come out, I've seen it where you could not turn a damaged planetary the line up these bolts and had to torch all that out. What happened to yours?

Not sure exactly how different these are but on a 1070 you have to remove the tranny top plate to get to a bearing carrier and remove the bolts holding it to get the unit to slide out. The units aren't really that heavy to need that special lifting tool, at least in a 1070.

Did you remove the two tubes that are in the casting that holds the c-1 and c-4 pistons? Each one is hidden under a cap that requires an allen wrench to remove. They come down from the top and can be reached after removing the hydraulic lines and elbows.

That"s a problem we"ve never encountered, and a strange one at that. There"s nothing to sieze up that will prevent it from coming out. You definitely have a one of a kind problem, and I"m no help at all. But, I would like to know what happened after you do get it removed.
