I have a 1953 VAI with hydraulics, three point and NO draw bar. I see on most VA model tractors, draw bar frames get connected to the two 5/8" studs on the bottom of the rear end. I have a different plan for them. I plan on mounting a snow plow frame to those bolts, and using the hydraulics and lift arm to raise and lower the snow plow. I am wondering if anybody knows the capacity of those bolts?? Has anybody broken those bolts (or worse - their tractor) with too much load?? I have the frame built, but may add additional bracing if needed. Thanks in advance.

MJ, thanks for the info and the valuable pic. I did not see the other two bolts below. How does that brush hog work for you? I plan on using a five foot king cutter this year. Thanks.

That is a 5' K.Kutter shown in the photo. I'm using an over-running clutch on the PTO which adds some length and would probably create too extreme an angle for the mowers' u-joints but I had already added 3" to the lift arms on the tractor for better compatibility with non-CASE implements so it works well. I also shortened the mowers' driveshaft 4" since the driveshaft could not be removed without unhoooking the mower first. You might want to look at my webpage for more VA Series info and photos.

CK, thanks for the info. When I found out what the bolts were used for I couldn't believe it. One would think they would want a draw bar hitch connected to something a little more beafy. I am convinced I will be adding additional bracing on my set up. Thanks.

The bolts under the rear housing hold an offset plate that supports one end of the drawbar pin which fits into a hole in the casting. Most of the 'pull' is taken by that pin.....not the bolts.
