My H has been leaking oil out of the belt pulley for a long time now so we got the seal for it and took the pulley off and haven't had time to do anything with it yet. I was wondering if anyone could scan me an exploded view of the pulley? I hope to take it apart in the evenings. Thanks sooo much!

RC

Thank you guys so much. I'll see if I cant get that thing replaced one of these evenings. Without your help I would not be able to do some of the repairs I do. Thanks again!

P.S. Thanks Red for that diagram!

The pulley on Indy H was leaking petty bad two years ago. I left the assembly on the tractor and simply removed the 4 end bolts and tapped the gizzards out. I do recall using a 3 prong puller to get the gear off, but had no problems sticking it back on. I had to replace the large ball bearing assembly next to the beveled gear. Someone had forced one on not knowing there was a burr on the shaft. The inner race was cracked clean through. I think the job took less than two hours. I did add a half quart of 90W in the filler hole after I had it back together.

Red, this raises a question about pulley lubrication. I understand theres a thrower gear below that is supposed to throw oil up into the pulley housing. I just filled this H with 6 gallons of gear oil and didn't add any to the pulley reservoir. It looks like you could get 3 or 4 quarts in it..would that be over filling the tractor? I think all I need do is run the tractor down the road a half mile and clutch and engage the roller and it will fill itself. ...just a question re could you over-fill? Once the reservoir fills itself it should stay full unless you have a bad seal..correct? Thanks Mike in Exeter Ontario

Michael that pulley assembly only hold oils in the lower section next to the pulley face. Once you fill over 1/2 quart, the rest just drains back into the transmission. You are correct on it throwing oil up there but the excess just drains back into the transmission.

I did the pulley on my H last fall. I was able to change the bearings and the seal on the bench. I must be getting old because I can't remember the details. My I-H dealer told me how to take it apart. After you have it out of the tractor set it on the bench with the drive gear up. You remove the two capscrews(bolts) and the shaft separates. You should be able to tap on the bearing and move it off. I put the new bearing in by tapping on it with a piece of hardwood. Then the seal went on in the same manner using a piece of wood to gently get it in place. Slide the shaft back into place and replace the capscrews. Haas suggests you need a press to get the bearing in and that would be easy but I managed the hard way and it wasn't too bad a job. My problem is the setting of the teeth to mesh. The roller assembly has 3 shims and the end of the roller drive has 3 shims. I need to have the tractor running and pumping oil up to the pulley before I know what kind of job I did. I had pulley noise when I turned it by hand but it may not be there when the oil is being pumped. I do know I needed a new seal anyway and when it was apart ..you may as well put the bearing in. all available from your I-H dealer. Good Luck from Mike Soldan in Exeter Ontario

I don't have any pictures, but are you aware a bearing press is required to get the belt pulley assembly apart to replace the seal?? The bearings and as I recall the gear on the end of the shaft are pressed on and must come off to replace the seal.
