My B is leaking oil out of the left axle like a sieve. The whole rim is covered in grime. I gotta get her fixed but want to know what Im getting in to. Do I just need the seal and thats it? It would be the same procedure as it would be for an A, correct? It doesn't seem all that hard just by looking at it because of the chain drive and all. Anybody ever dont this and have a few words to say?!? Thanks. BTW I got the H going smooth....

I replaced the axle seal on my A. There is a seal and a felt washer. It was fairly easy. Jack and support the tractor. Remove the wheel and the the bottom gear cover. There is a plate on the inside of the final drive this need to be removed. The axle can then be bumped out after removing the nut on the inside of the axle. There are spacers on the axle and you will need to support the large gear on the axel shaft. The outer housing is held on with 4 bolts the seal and felt washer are in that housing. When reinstalling the the seal don't daage the seal when you slip the seal housing over the axle. It goes on tight due to the felt washer. The other important tip is insure that you put the new seal in correctly, seal open side facing inwards.

Good luck Dave Ulm

no chain drive there are two seals on the axle one on the trans this is the one that is probably leaking not that hard to change check the journal where it seals might want to put two of them in the new ones are a lot thinner this way you can put one on either side of the place where the original one was and you will have a good surface to work with might as well do the other one one the output side where it goes into the final reduction have done this several times dont need leakage for the brake area
