Hi I am 16 years old and I am restoring a Farmall H for a FFA project and I am getting ready to put the head back on and I was wondering if I needed some kind of a sealent on the gasket or if the gasket itself is good enough. I have asked some friends about this but I was looking for more advice. thank you

Copper coat is made just for that and will help spread out the heat so the head will seal down as it should. Also after it is warmed up don't forget to retorque the head

Alluminum spray paint on each side will also work just as well. Allow to dry to touch before installing. I learned this from my old FFA advisor.

I used copper coat on a Super H head gasket 3 years ago, no leaks.

I use a covering single coat of CopperCoat brand spray sealer on my head gaskets. (unless the directions that come with it indicate not to, or require a different sealant. Follow the directions, Good luck with a great project, JimN

A friend said to use the same sealent. My gasket set did not have any instructions. Thank you for your reply

If your gasket is metal on both sides and looks like it has a coat of varnish on it, that coating is the sealant. It requires heat for the sealant to work so the engine needs to be run for the sealant to seal. As long as the block are clean and flat it will do a good job. If you have cracks or pits then some additional sealant in those areas may be necesary.
