I am helping a friend get his tractor going and when I went to remove the battery to charge it, I noticed that he had it connected positive to ground and negative to the starter switch. Does that sound correct? The tractor is a 1948, 6 volt system. Thanks.

most tractors and auto of that era were 6v pos ground system. I believe in the mid 50s is when they made the switch to 12v neg ground systems.

1949 50 51 52 &53 Chevve's were negetive ground. Ford at that time were positive. I am not sure about chrysler. Chevvy came with 12 volt negetive in 55, Ford in 56.
