I had the head completely redone and put it back on the engine. I Engine sounds good but when I shut it off it sounds like compression bubbling somewhere. Now this tractor came from a salvage yard with rear end problems. I fixed that problem. but cant figure out the bubbling sound problem. just sounds like air escaping for just a couple seconds. Anybody have any idea what it could be? Also pump and injectors were redone and the engine kind of flutters at about half throttle. Sounds real nice up till then. Could they have screwed up on the pump? Thanks for any help in advance.

I had a problem with engine flutter like you describe and it was because someone put the wrong kind of 90 degree elbow in the pump where the return line connects. it was a wide open street L where it should have had a flow restrictor in it.

Make sure you get the newer elbow and not one off of an older engine. Original elbows had a separate orfice pressed into the elbow. Later ones had the orfice drilled in a solid elbow. Check to be sure the orfice is not still in the pump.

The original style could come lose and get back into the pump. When the pump is is start position the loose piece could get under the fuel control sleeve and when the engine starts the governor cannot move the sleeve down to control the engine speed so the engine revs until the valves get bent bouncing off pistons or the block gets ventilated. Either result can ruin your day.

Yep,

And if that hose isn't an IH hose, it won't run right either; cuts the horsepower in half. Something about the harmonic vibration of the silly thing.

If you open up the coolant cap with the engine running, do you see bubbles? If so, the compression is leaking in through a cylinder O-ring or through the head gasket. Do you see any coolant getting in the oil? Do you see any oil in the coolant? Do you know the general area where the noise is coming from? If it is from the front, have you checked the pressure on the radiator cap? Just some thoughts.
