I need to give the disc brakes on my Super C a little TLC. They don't hold evenly and they seem to stick sometimes. Is it possible to change the seals while I'm in there? Can someone give me an idea what I'm getting into and what I should do while I'm in there? Am I likely to need new pads? Many thanks, tractorsam

Replacement of the disces is pretty simple.as said before clean everthing well. I would recommend you take your disc's to a brake shop for relining rather than purchasing aftermarket ones.I use Better Brake in Des Moines for band and disc type brakes. They use a better and softer compound in their linings.Sometimes the sticking is caused by grooves in the brake shaft. not allowing the disc to move in and out freely. Even disc's from CIH are aftermarket now.

If they can reline disc brakes, can they put a thicker than original lining on to compensate for the wear on the drum and actuator?

You might be wasting your time & money on seals, unless they are leaking. Our SC got new brake discs 2 years ago, & that coupled with a thorough cleaning, solved all braking problems. A tap on the brake pedals will put you over the steering wheel.

I would get an I&T manual first. but yes you can replace the oil seals from the outside while you service the breaks. As for the locking up, I'v had experence with this on ouir Super C, and Super H. and first make suyre the breaks and all barks are really clean and free of dust and dirt. Also check the breaking serfaces for marks and ridges and deep scratches. Finaly if that does not work, first replace the break disks then replace the balls in the accuator and the springs too that is what solved the problem on our Super H. THe Super C just needed a good cleaning and it was all set.

Good Luck

Andrew
