806 TA Noise

I have a noise in the clutch housing of my 806. It only occurs at idle and with the clutch out. (If I depress the clutch or rev up the engine, the noise goes away.) It is a slow grind with the TA lever ahead and a faster one with it back. This leads me to think that maybe it is TA bearings that are not getting oil at slower speeds. I have been using it all spring but am careful not to let it idle with the clutch out. Has anyone had a similar experience? Thanks.

If it"s gear rattle, it will also be dependent on temperature of the transmission oil. Does the noise come in after the trans has been warmed up - do you have it in the winter time if the engine is warmed up? If the noise seems to be dependent on the viscosity of the transmission fluid, it is most likely gear rattle and as stated previously, nothing to worry about.

The temp of the hydraulic fluid doesn't seem to matter. Is it possibly something to do with the multiple control valve, do you think? Reading the I&T manual it looks like that sends oil to the TA from the power steering pump. Has anybody ever had one of those puppies apart? (The MCV is mounted on the left side of the clutch housing and controls the flow of oil from the power steering pump.) Are they impossible to work on?

If you idle along in gear is the noise still there? If it only occurs under noload condition I would guess that it is caused by gear rattle in the drive train. Anything else should slow down with the TA back. Gear rattle is not harmful and is quite normal. It can start to occur at higher RPMs as the damper springs get worn in the clutch.

You think it could be your throw out bearing?
