Punch below for a few shots of plowing/fitting with horses. These are from the annual "Old Fashioned Farm Day" near Caledonia, NY last weekend.

Seeing work performed like this makes one truly appreciate how far mechanized agriculture has progressed over the last 100 years(!)

Mornin Bob, Nice pictures ! Thats the way my grandfather worked his small dairy farm in the Catskills. I cant even imagine using a team of horses pulling a hay dump rake, then using pitch forks to put it up on the wagon and then transport to the barn ! I get tired just thinking about it :")

ps One good thing was you could spread manure and plow at the same time :")

Great pictures Bob M. Thanks for sharing them. I grew up in Northern Maine in 1950s. Lots of horses around. We had 3 teams. Thanks again. Dick in Vermont.

Yankees! I don't think a horse ever pulled a plow south of the Mason-Dixon Line. The only horsepower I ever saw was a mule (or two)

In fact, one of my funniest moments was when I was a kid. My grandpa took me and pulled a load of lumber to town...the train rain through it...when we got there, he stopped and got me off and went inside to see about selling the lumber. The train set off the whistle...scared the mules and they took off running...all the way home with the lumber scattered along he road for about 8 miles.

Good pictures but what's with all the wheels and seats?
If I get the transfer to work you'll see what I remember.
