Anyone know the nut size for the 6 (3 on each side) 'U' bracket that goes around the axle and attaches the hitch to the axle on a Farmall M? I have received my Saginaw hitch and these nuts are in such bad shape I may need to cut them off to attach this new 3 point. Also any advice on doing this? Thanks.

I am not sure how your Saganaw attaches. The one I installed, I did not have to monkey with the clamps around the axel. The two mounting bolts that pointed to the rear, I just ligned them up with the hitch holes and was on my way...took less than 30 minutes by myself and with crane.

There doesn't appear to be enough thread to do this in my case. What tractor were you attaching it to?

Use a one inch cold chisel and a 2 pound hammer to split the nut. Put a sledge hammer on the back side to buck it and transfer more energy into the nut. Cut allong the flat of the nut so it gets spread as the groove you are making gets close to the threads. A bit of effort, but works well. JimN

I may need to do this as I haven't had luck otherwise. I was hesitant to put a pipe wrench on it but that might also be necessary. I like the chisel idea though. Thanks.

I stand corrected. On the front they are 1 5/16, on the rear where you attach the hitch it takes a 1 1/4 socket??? Dont know why. A pipe wrench works good also. Andy
