Bale spear for loader

I'm looking for a bale spear attachment for an Allied 595 loader. The place where I bought the loader wants $775 which I thought was way too high. Also I've seen them in the Fleet farm catalog for only $219 (made by King Kutter). I am going to use this for large square bales. These attachments allow you to take the bucket off the loader so the bale isn't so far out front giving you more stability and less bouncing on the front end. Should I take a chance on the cheap one or bite the bullet and buy the Allied one? Any other brands or suggestions? Thanks, Mark

I've got a Worksaver LSF30 with 2 big spears on my Farmhand F11B loader (which is on my M). Handles 1800 lb round and 4x4x8 squares great, with no bale spinning around one spear. Cost about $300 or so. It adjusts to fit your loader arm width, and will work on a single bucket cylinder or a 3 pt. It's the lower one in the picture. Check the website and you can find a local dealer.

We've got that same Worksaver. It's on our 706 with IH 2250 loader. It's a very well-built spear, easy to put on and take off, and will fit just about any loader. I would highly reccomend it.

Mark, I agree with David on the single spear. Don't think that is what you want. What does work for me is a manure bucket with several small tines.

I am not sure of your options but I would suggest you pick one that has more than one large spear. My experience is that the single large spear and two small ones won't lift a square bale. The spears just lift through it. If you pack the bales real tight pipe spears are too large to get into the bale. Go for solid steel spears.

Thanks to all of you for your help. I'll look for a spear with two large tines instead of one. I didn't think they would rip through with one but now I know better. thanks a lot
