Hi: I have an old international Excavator and have a problem. I believe it is in the Fuel supply. after it sits overnight in the morning it will not fire without a shot of either. and will not continue to run after it starts without additional shots of either (quite a few shots to keep it running) then all of a sudden it kicks in and will run all day, and restart just fine. I took the fuel pump off and there was fuel in the pump but none in the supply line from the tank. with the pump off operating the primer from a drum of fuel it pumps fine. Not sure where to go from here. seems like to me the fuel is draining back into the tank as it sits overnight. Would a pinhole in the Diaphram do this?. Getting the cam in the lower position so you can prime it is a pain. Can I use an inline electic fuel pump on this?. If so What pressure pump should I look for Have not been able to find an Engine Model number on this yet. 6cyl Int Diesel. Any help would be appreciated..\

Carol, I would guess there should be a check valve in the pump somewhere to prevent the fuel from bleeding back out of it. If not, there could be a hole in the diaphram as you said.

It would be possible to install an electric pump to supply the mechanical pump. I think any pump that produces 5-10 psi would be sufficient if you wanted to go that route.
