Here's a few pix from the Western NY 2 Cylinder Club's fall plow day last weekend near Scottsville NY. While this was a John Deere collectors' club sponsored event and about a dozen 2 cylinder tractors were in operation, 3 Farmalls also participated and showed the "green men" how it's done!

I like the Farmall A. Does that exhaust lift work?? Also, pic must have been taken when the tractor was resting judging from the position of the muffler flipper in the pic.

Hey!! I am that old duffer on the scooter in the pictures.I belong to the John Deere Club and restored the JD B .The person operating the B is a 17 year old neighbor kid who hangs around and helps me out.(his family collects those farmalittles and he owns a Oliver 60/wfe)I have gotten a number of young people involved with this hobby over the years. I am not confined to the scooter yet, but it enables me to attend these functions even with my condition of MD,I fought getting a scooter for a long time but finally realized it would allow me to enjoy these things without having to rely on someone to pick me up when I fall down.Don't feel sorry for me as there are many people worse off than me.ps. I am only 54 years young Lol

My humble apologies Ron! (One of the club members told me the guy on the B was your son...)

Incidentally I got 100+ photos at this event. Will burn them all onto a CD and drop it in the mail to you shortly. ...Bob

Bob M What model is your plow. I have a 5 bottom that I have been trying to ID for 18 mo. that looks like the one in your pictures with a 5th bottom added on the left side. It looks like a trip type with hyd. added later. Thanks Morgan

All I know about that plow is that it's an Oliver 4 x 14" and that it dates back to the early 50's. I have no idea as to the model, etc. It was given to me a couple years ago in one of those "if you get it outta there it's yours..." deals. Had to cut down a small tree growing thru it to retrieve it. Then replaced the tire on the tail wheel and put on new points. It now plows pretty good - and it really makes my old Super M bark!

What about the picture of that poor old duffer sitting in his wheelchair? Sucks. Probably sitting there thinking about the old days and wishing he could participate. I hate seeing stuff like that.

Actually the guy in the wheelchair was out there snapping digital pix of his son plowing with the JD "B". You couldn't wipe the smile off his face!

Thanks for the photographs. Fun to see the tractors out there working and not just on display. I enjoyed a plow day here in Illinois last weekend. The way it's going, maybe we could have a "snowplow" day soon.

Doc - Don't know much about that Super H....it's owner acquired it only a few weeks ago. One thing I do know however: It easily pulled that 2 bottom plow in 3rd gear!

Great pictures Bob.

The farm I was raised on had a good amount of what we called gumbo (I don't know if gumbo exists on other places or not.)and a three bottom plow was all we could pull with a Super M. Some places a Super M wouldn't pull a three bottom plow either. My plow day is my garden which takes about 20 minutes total!

Bob, Sounds about like some of our ground here in Mich. We could pull 3/14's with our "MD" in some of the lighter ground, but hit one of those Clay veins, in the heavier ground, and it was back to the 2/16.

Where you at in Michigan, Paul? I was raised on a farm in central Michigan, west of St. Johns on M21.

We did most of our plowing with a 3-16 JD plow behind a McCormick Super W6. I can relate to the clay veins, that ol' W6 would REALLY snort when I hit one. Could usually plow in 3rd, but there were spots in every field where I'd have to drop down to 2nd, and even then it was touch and go.

We're in S.E. Midland County between Midland and Saginaw. Our ground runs the whole gambit from sand to black loam to blue clay. From High and dry ground to cat-tail swamps. We farm acerage scattered over 3 counties, down from 4.

The day you announced the plow day, I had ridden my motorcycle to work....so I rode over to the pumpkin patch to see how far it was to my house on the East Avon, Honeoye Falls border. As the crow flies, I'll bet it's only 6 or 7 miles, but with the bridge on route 20 or the bridge on 251 being my only choices, it was 12.5 miles. I didn't like the prospect of driving my 2N that far.

But looking at the pictures, I should have come over and just watched. My son is 4, and I told him the BN was his. He's gonna "help" me restore it. We'll start tearing it apart soon. But thanks for keeping the locals posted. Someday we'll meet so I can thank you in person.

Take Care
Steve

HI all,Iam the owner of the Super H and the A,that is my BIG 3 year old grandson J.B. Yaw JR. and myself plowing on the A. To ansewer some of your questions,my now departed father in law (both of us former plow boys), collected and restored 5 Farmalls over the years. The Super H however is completly original. We bought it from the original owners son. I have the bill of sale that shows an F-20 as the in, the owners manual for the tractor and the loader that came with it.The ypostery is still on the seat, owner says tractor was never left outside overnight. That is not the muffler that was on it a friend told me they are very valuable so Itook it off to hold onto. I don,t know about the muffler on it in the picturd it came on an M I bought. Thanks Bob for the great pictures. good job as always. My wife is waiting for me togo to supper so please excuse all the typos. DC
