Inter W4 Split Rims

Can someone tell me how to split the rear rims on an Inter W4 tractor? I have tried with no success. But it appears to me that the outer rim half needs to be removed from the axle spline in order to split it. This does not seem right to me because it would have made changing tyres too difficult to do in the field. Can anyone help?

Youve lost me.The "rim" is attached to a big heavy hub, which is bolted to the axle with on big bolt. The "rim" is attached to the hub via several clamps on each side of the hub with a bolt.Take out all the bolts and the "rim" comes off,you shouldnt need to take the whole thing off!

That's what I would expect. But there are no clamps, just "through" bolts around the rim (about 6 or 8 from memory - sorry, the tractor is 100 miles away - I use it for boat launching off the beach!). Because the wheels have been in salt water, it is not obvious where the rim should split off from the hub. I assume it is at the rim shoulder where it "meets" the hub, but it does not look like a joint to me - perhaps the years of rust and paint layers are disguising it. I have given the rim a tap with the back of an axe to see if it would "break" at the join, but that did not do anything. Maybe I need to try a 15lb sledge hammer????

it sounds to me like your rims are mounted backwards with the ring on the inside. Am I correct?

I cannot see how they can be mounted backwards because the inner rims have lifting handles facing outwards.

Sorry, I cannot post a picture at the moment - the tractor is 100 miles away - I use it for boat launching off the beach.
Yes - two steel handles welded to the rim. Looks like their purpose is to lift the rim off once it splits from the hub. The problem is that I cannot see where the rim spilts from the hub because of years of rust and layers of old paint - looks like the rim and hub are all one piece. And no amount of persuasion with the back of an axe has revealed any sign of a join at the shoulder between the rim and the hub (where it logically should be).

sounds like maybe steel disk wheels, like axle duals. Are the bolts in near the axle or out near the tire?

The bolts are out near the tyre.
