I am removing my old generator, and plan to replace it with a standard Chevy Delco alternator. Can you please let me know if this will fit on a 300 utility without modifying the side panels? Fitting it below the side panels make it look like it is going to be a close, close fit. Do you suggest a different type of alternator? Thanks!!

Mike J, I recently installed a delco SI alt. on a 300 utility, was able to use gen bracket, but had to modify slightly, also able to put hood/side panel back in place. It is a tight fit but it will work.D Sellers

I put a delco on, but my pulley on the alternator is about a 1/4" off from the crank pulley, causing the belt to twist. Do you recommend some type of adjustment or modification?

I have had three 300 utilies with Delco alternators and no modification was done.I fits the old generator bracket, the bracket that adjusts the belt tension may have to be bent a little. Find a belt that puts the alternator up close to the valve cover but can be tightened. Most people just take a torch and cut a big hole in the side of the hood you don't have to do that.

I asked the same question a while back and a Toyota alternator was suggested to reduce the space problem. I haven't done it yet so I don't know if it is necessary.
