I need anyone help! I have a 49' "C"...usually a very dependable tractor, but now I can't get her started. About a week ago, I decided I was going to degrease her before putting her away for the winter...while doing this, I got water in the distributor & she coughed & sputterd, but choked her way back to life...I used the tractor another 2hrs & shut her down...she hasn't started since...so far, I have replaced the points, cap & rotor, new spark plugs, new battery & I just had to have the starter rebuilt because I wore it out trying to crank it over for two days...now, I have the new starter in it, new battery, & she still will not fire! I cleaned the fuel bowl, tried starting fluid, & nothing I do is working...I'm wondering if it could be something in the intake manifold? valves? she's got a real sharp blue spark, so it's not a spark issue. Anyone who can help me would be muchly appreciated!

You said you have fire but is it on #1 when on T.D.C. How can you have carbon on new plugs when it wont run?

It won't run, but it will sputter & "pop", maybe "run" for 3 seconds or so, but not run enough to move the tractor.

Josh, I think you may have gotten some water in the fuel tank. Take a long transparent soda straw and stick it down into the tank all the way to the bottom if you can. Cover the top of the straw with your finger and you'll have a stratified sample of what is in your tank. I'm betting that if you find water in the bottom part of the tank and drain that, you'll be running right away. Hope this helps, Joe.

CHECK YOUR INTAKE MANIFOLD. SOUNDS LIKE IT IS SUCKING AIR THRIUGH A CRACK OR GASKET INSTEAD OF GAS.CHECK PLUGS TO SEE IF THEY HAVE GAS ON THEM. IF NOT LOOK AT MANIFOLD.

Thanks! I'll look into that...I checked the plugs, they are dry, so it makes sense. I'll check in the morning at first light! I also noticed the plugs had some carbon on them even though they never really fired, would this be consistant w/ a manifold gasket?
