HELP smta trans pilot puller

Well I went and did it,just like the service manual says be carefull aligning the ta housing to transmission so you dont damage pilot bearing.Has anyone replaced this bearing if so what did you use for a puller.Please help almost done.Paul.

Yes KELLY C thats the one that sent the rollers flying like buck shot all over the shop.Just hope I can get my puller inside the hole.Thanks.Paul.

i put a rubber band around the rollers to hold them tight againest the inside race. a use a split puller to remove the bearing.

Paul I don't remember that the bearing is on all that tight. So I think I can help you in 2 ways. Take the plate the transmission where the belt pulley would go that way you should be able to drive the old bearing off, put a rag under the bearing to keep anything from getting into the trany. It would take a small puller to pull the bearing off. When you put the TA housing on be sure you use dowel screws in the top 2 screw holes of the trany, grease the bearing to keep the roller in tight, I always had a rod in the shap of the bearing to help hold the bearing and shaft up to alain with the TA. Hope this is some help.

Aces.I did have dowel screws in the trans,even had all the bolts started that pilot bearing looked sloppy when I removed ta housing but no pitting or scoring of rollers so I said let her go your suggestion of greasing rollers is a good idea also never thought to lift up on trans shaft to align ta .If you wanted to hear some choice words when the rollers came flying out of the trans case you should have been arround.Oh well live and learn.Thanks for your help.Paul.
