What did you die hard IH guys do when they became Case IH? Did you just try to keep the old red going? Did you continue to buy Case IH? or switch to other brands? Just curious

As mentioned earlier, can't stop using, for the most part good equipment, due to a few idiots. I have tried to stay with IH, but have started to get a few green pieces. The Magnum, probably the best tractor in 30 years or better when it came out. Now it seems the MX series is a pice of junk. Seems like they went backwards or something Just my opinion.

Clint: Since the mid 1980s, manufacturers of cars, trucks, tractors, recreational toys, etc. have discovered that if society will spend their hard earned money on junk, why produce anything else. The average consumer of these items in 2004, is actually more concerned with letting his neighbors know he has the money or credit to buy, rather than be sure he got value for money.

Hugh,
Yes I get a chuckle out of the guys that buy a riding garden tractor on steroids for 15-20K and talk about their "tractor" :)

Banks in Kansas are not interested in feeding any farmer's ego by loaning $50 to $100 thousand on shiny peices of junk. It a lot safer to loan that kind of money on 2 or three SUVs to some guys working in town then one loan that depends on world peace and rain coming at the right time. The banks that loaned on ego instead of cash flow all went out of business around 1985.

My brothers are still running IH but it has more to do with the dealer service in their area. 30 years ago IH and JD both had about 45% of the sales and all the other makes had the last 10%. Then the IH dealer took over the Case dealership and still retained about 35-40% of market, JD stayed about the same while the smaller dealers moved up a little. IH HAD a pretty good dealer network when it was combined with Case, the working relationships those dealers established over 20 to 80 years remained strong even if the brand did not.

In my area the IH dealer was in a weak position and went under in 1987. With that went the local service and IH equipment was slowly weeded out as most farmers didn't consider 40 mile drives for parts condusive to business. Still see a few 86 series tractors in the field but for the most part RED has all but vanished from the landscape.

I guess that you could describe us as die hard IHers, we've been all IH since 1947 when grandad got his first tractor. The Case buyout wasn't a big deal to us, because all of the tractor in our HP range were still IH tractors, identical to before 84. The NH merger and subsequent Fiat buyout make me a little leary though!! If I were going to buy anew tractor now, I think I'd look pretty hard at a McCormick, they're still the good ol' 84 series tractors (more or less), with that new perkins. We've got a C60 Case-IH and really like the prekins engine!

i would be considered one, we have all red, some IH and case IH. I was fine with the conbining until after the original Magnum. I can tell those tractors will work longer than some humans, but any MX or MXM wont last more than 15 years and be done with with all the computers. I know the magnums did have computers, but ever so rarely gave trouble. They atleast did it right, put an OVRD switch so if say it quits in an intersection or railroad tracks, you can flip the switch, start it back up and get away. I can say that an IH would last longer than a Case IH, especialy since the got with CNH. With new equipment, you can let the clutch out, and half the time it won't do anything for a few seconds, it just couldn't save you life if it depended on it, but the IH's, once it was in gear, and you let the clutch out, it went no matter what, even if something was wrong.

guess you might call us die hards.we have a 46H[1 owner],M,SM,SMTA,another H,C,2 560D,784,1066,CIH 685,7110&5240. They all get used to! just had the M out today running grain augur. Although these days you try not to run the gassers to much with gas at 1.75 agallon.the 560s do their fair share to they are very cheap to run. I dont think I like where case is headed these days I recently saw a cih 150 hp model[sorry dont remember the model #]and a new holland model parked side by side and they were identicle except the paint.SAD!

Fortunately (or unfortunately) the 50's &60's & 70's Red tractors will outlast this 40's human. Both sons will have to speak for themselves-although youngest has a collection of red 82's.

Stayed with them, can't stop using good equipment because of corperate morons that ran a good company in the ground. Their business practices were questionable at best, the equipment was overall good stuff. Old habits die hard and so do old Farmalls. IH is a tradition with some of us and if it says Case IH, its OK, Case is good stuff too. Don't know how I'll feel if the new Case NH paints them blue though.

I stick with the REAL IH. Don't ask me why. But older tractors are good enough for my small operation, though I would buy one of the new McCormicks just for fun.

If Case IH ever made a W-9 I would buy it or even a 22-36. However I dont think there is anyone around that still knows how to make them like they used to so I guess I am out of luck.

Don't know if I can be considered die hard IH, because we have a Case also. As a small family farm we don't have any tractors new enough to be CaseIH! However, our seed drills are CaseIH and the next set we get will probably be the same... The merging of Case and International was a good thing, IH had good points and Case had good points - together they have done well I think...
