You say it gets some oil pressure after it runs for a few minutes. A engine should have oil pressure right after startup, and good pressure, not just some. It could be faulty or worn oil pump, worn bearings, or a leak between the pump and block. I had a car once that had so dirty oil that the dirt clogged the oil pickup. It was solved with an oil change. Hope some of this would be at any help for you. /Dennis

Take off the valve cover and the re is a nut on a stud in the center of the rocker assy this stud has to have a hole in it as thats the way oil gets to the tappets probably will want to take entire rockshaft off to check this out.

I would pull the pan and make sure your pickup screen is not plugged up.

Both posts are good advise. You didn't say if this was a new/sudden problem, after a rebuild, or just trouble shouting an unknown. If it helps diagnose further, the oil reaches the top of the motor through the center main bearing/center camshaft bearing galley. There are three small hex plugs in the side of the block (on the oil filter side) that go into these gallies, verify that path behind the center plug is open. If your overall oil pressure is very high, I would suspect a plugged oil path(which I've seen once after a rebuild with a salvage yard block that had dirt it it that hot tanking didn't clean out), but if very low, I would suspect worn out bearings and maybe a warped cap on the oil pump.
