I just picked up a Super A. Can anyone tell me where to find the serial number on the tractor?
I don't even know what year it is.

The number on the block will not necessary be the same as the tractor serial number. There was no effort made to keep them together at the factory. But it should be close.

Dan: After 1951 they aren't even close as the SA was switched to same block as SC, thus the blocks were used in both. My SA is 1953 and I know block is original. Tractor serial is 336977 and engine is 338597. Most 53 Super As are out by that much and the spread gets wider in 54.

Nick: For the most part Scotty is right, however there are a few exceptions, 1,957 of them to be exact. They are Super A1 built in 1954 and the serial plate for those is on the left side of clutch housing. On the other 300,000+ A and SA, it is as Scotty indicated.

Up until about 1951 those engine and tractor serial numbers will also be very close. After that SA engines changed and engine numbering was different.

Nick, You should be able to find the tractor serial # under the seat on the seat support closest to the transmission. Also under your #1 sparkplug you should find the serial number stamped in the block. You may have to remove some grease and oil to find it. On this site you can find the year of the tractor using those numbers.
