Hydraulic question

I have an IH 574 with auxiliary hydraulics. I want to use a device with a single acting cylinder. What’s the recommended way to do this? If I just plug it into one of the two outlets it will work but has to blow the internal relief valve in order to lower the cylinder. Is this acceptable or is there a better solution?
Thanks
Tim

You just have to plug into the correct outlet and operate it like Hugh mentioned.

Tim: I'm not right up on these 74 then 84 series tractors. However by the time they came along all the Farmalls had a float position on their hydraulic lever and valve. With the single hose you had to be sure you pluged into the right port for that to work. On the Farmall all you need do was put your lever in float, when lowering an implement. With the Farmalls that would have started in 63 with the new 04 and 06 series. 74 series was at least 8 years after that, it must have it.

Just pipe the unused work port back to reservoir. I assume that must be the rear frame cavity. Run a low pressure hose from plugged port to "check level" pipe plug. You will probably want to put a tee there.

No good can come from stressing the hydraulic system repeatedly for no good reason.

Hi Tim, my brother hooks up his 454 to a single acting cylinder on his NH haybine this way and lets it blow the relief valve when he lowers it.
The older IHs like 300U etc had a control on the control valve that would allow selection of S or D.

I don't like the squealing noise but it dose not bother my brother and he has been using it this way for several years and no harm has been done to his 454.

My 2 cents
JB
