I Just picked up a WF Heberd shop Mule
Type A21 Seral no 1021 Engine no 152938
Engine casting no 12 -17 -0
Where can I get manuals for this tractor
And what can you tell me about this machine
Where Is the battery suppose to go.
I need A sterring wheel Farmall is not the same I was told a IH truck sterring wheel may have been used it has ross sterring box.

I have 2 Mules. One is evidently a fairly early A-14 but has no serial plate. The other is an A-21.

I have exchanged a few emails with Bill G. Even with that, I have almost no information on these things.

Thanks for the help on the shop mule.
Any pictures would be very helpful.
the fenders were put on using pipe spacers
were they supose to be that way looks odd to me.

Your shop mule is a 1946 model. The 12-17-O number on the engine is a casting date. The letter O stands for 1945. The engine serial number is an early 1946, so the casting has the 1945 date on it. I have two of these beasts, and I've had no luck getting a manual. There were some reprints from the shopmule@hotmail.com, but all are gone and he has not printed anymore of them to my knowledge. Get yourself a Farmall A owners manual and a Farmall A service manual. These will work for many things. As to the steering wheel, go to a Yale Lift truck dealer and find a friendly parts person. The steering wheel shaft is 7/8 inch diameter with 36 splines. I got a steering wheel for one of mine from Yale. The steering wheel they can get looks exactly like the original, but is slightly smaller diameter. I believe the original is 18 inch and the replacement is 17 inch. On mine the threads for the steering wheel nut were all stripped off, so I tapped the inside of the hollow shaft with an 18 mm fine thread tap and used a bolt to hold the wheel on. The battery box goes either on the right front mounted on the clutch housing, or on the rear behind the seat. I have one each way. Most are on the right front side. The location depends what equipment was on the mule. One of mine has a snow plow on it and there is a frame for that and thus the battery is on the back.
