I've read some posts on the 404 international and now I'm really confused!!!! It seems some people say live pto and the others say not live. Also some say hi/lo range other say 4 speed. I'm looking to buy a neighbors tractor but can't seem to tell exactly what it is. I was told it was a 404 Int. It has a live PTO with a 4 cylinder 123 gas motor. It is a 4 speed trans with forward and reverse. The serial number was 2xxx J (can't remember the other 3 nums). Does this make it a '62 model year? The tractor has an International 2000 loader, 6 foot HD back blade, and tire chains. It will generally be used for brush cutting and dragging small logs from the woods. I know nothing about tractors but it seems to run good and the loader seems strong. The sheetmetal is a little rough with NO rear fenders. I can pick it up for right around $4000. I guess my question is - is it worth it? Thanks for any suggestions/comments.

There may be a model number badge on the left and right side of the nose of the tractor that is hidden by the 2000 loader. Took me a couple months until I noticd them on mine.

Probably worth it because of the loader.

The 240 model would have the C123 and just a 4 speed (the 404's predecessor). The 404 should have a C135, 4 speed and could have optional high/low range or a direction reverser. The 240 doesn't have live PTO, and I don't think the 404 did either. Value is pretty subjective (what are you willing to pay, and he willing to take?); but it's in the ballpark. Things that bring it down are sheetmetal, tires, rims general amount of wear/abuse (especially on a loader tractor).
