I like to take the bolt out of the oil filter and fill the filter housing using a small funnel through the bolt hole. You have to hold the housing down against the gasket while filling and replacing the bolt.

When I rebuilt my H's motor, I oiled all the bearings, poured a quart of oil down the push rods, put 5 quarts in the crank case and turned it over with the starter (no spark plugs) until the oil pressure came up. It didn't take very long.

I am about to put my H back together and was thinking about the same thing. I thought I would leave the plugs out and pull the tractor without the pressure in the cylinders to bring the oil pressure to full pressure before starting. I of course am oiling everything including bearings as it goes back together. Is this a good or bad idea. What do others think? Thanks.

I always use Lubriplate whenever I do a rebuild. It's like a white grease, and it stays where you put it, so if your rebuild takes several weeks, months or even years, you don't have to worry about priming the system to get it oiled. I coat everything with it, and I also pack the oil pump with it. As soon as the pump turns, it is primed and sucking oil, and the oil easily flushes the lubriplate out of the gears.

On engines where the oil pump is driven by a shaft from the distributor, I always give the pump a few spins with a homemade shaft and electric drill. That is also a good way to check for leaks before the initial start-up.

Can't speak with any knowledge about a C-135 but IH engines are cross drilled in several locations for oil galleries. The beginning of the hole is plugged with a 1/8 NPT plug. YOu will probably find one on the left side near the back of the block. Pump a couple of quarts under 10-20 lbs pressure in there. If you don't have a pump or suitable pressure vessel, maybe a grease gun filled with oil will work.
