With the muffler removed, the M will just go in a 7 ft high door. You'll need at least 9 ft wide, although with the wheels in, it would go in 8 ft, but no comfort zone for clearance. As the others said if you are using a 7 ft high door, you need to be very careful not to get yourself pinned as you go in or out. You must lean way down. I've kept my MD inside a barn that has 7 ft high doors for several years. Just built a new metal building with 12x10 doors. Now I can go in sitting up straight without worry of getting caught somehow. Really nice!

Guy Fay's data book says 78.25 inches, as others said depends on tire size. This dimension was probably with 11(12.4)-38 tires.

Everything on the M is at least 50% to 100% bigger/heavier than the same part on the H. That's why the H outsold it for the first 10 years they were produced. Everyone thought the M was too Big!

My Super M with the muffler removed will just sneak under a standard 7 ft. garage door with the door up as far back as it will go. It's a tight fit and one needs to be very careful and not get pinned or knocked off the seat. I have 13.6 x 38 tires.

Paul, I just put a tape up to my '49 M, and while the light wasn't the best, it's at least 81" to the top of the steering wheel. Removing the wheel would gain a few inches, but the top of the throttle lever assembly is probably 78" or so. The H and M frames are the same (or nearly the same) length, but tire size will change the overall length and height somewhat; for that matter, so will tire pressure.
Don't overlook the width factor. I don't know what the overall width of an M is from axle tip to axle tip, but if the wheels are dished out and it has 13.6 tires on it, you're dealing with almost 8 feet of width; certainly well over 7 feet.
