I have questioned whether or not the generator was charging on my 300 U. To make a long story shorter - I jumped a wire from the field post on the gen to ground and saw no change on the ammeter. I then jumped from the A post on the gen to the BAT on the regulator ( to polarize according to manual) and got sparks at the gen and ammeter showed discharge. Now the question, bad regulator or generator. Generator had new brushes and bearings this past winter. Any other ideas.
TIA,
Kit

Kit,

Sure sounds like a bad generator to me; with the field grounded, I would think that thing ought to charge full bore if the tractor is wound up.
