i went and looked at a 1466 today. low side of the T/A out, but you knew that already.good rubber and a K-5 koyker loader. my only problem with the tractor is that when you start it up when it has set 4-5 hours it clatters a couple of seconds, and the noise seems to come from the left side of the engine only. seems in the area of the injecter pump. could a inj. be hanging?maybe the pump is bleeding back a little and starting up dry? i really like this tractor and i want to buy it, but before i do i would like some advice from you folks on what that noise might be.
thanks barry

Yep, that's exactly it.

I've seen those old horses come to the end of the field, you idle 'em back and run over to the pickup to grab a cup o coffee and you notice that the thing is settin' back there a blowin', a snortin' and rattlin' like a corn sheller.

It does shake you up a little the first time you hear it; darned good pump tho.

Another noise that will throw you for a loop is those planetary gears in the rear axles sometimes "ticking" if they don't have a load against 'em, like when you are idling down the road in road gear.

First time I heard that noise, I called the service guy out. Cost me a $100 service call just for him to explain it to me. :>)

Good one to ya,

Allan

My 686 makes that sound on startup too, after its been sitting for awile. It has a similer bosch pump to the 1466. If it makes the noise only a few seconds I would'nt be conserned with it.

Pretty typical, especially if it's a cold day. If the noise only lasts a couple of seconds, I wouldn't worry about it. Start it again, and pay attention to the oil pressure guage. Does it smooth out as soon as it gets to full pressure? These pumps have a device for starting that sends max fuel to the engine at low oil pressure. Burning all that fuel in cold cylinders can make that noise.
