Why does these IH 6 cyls keep fouling plugs so darn bad??? I ran my 460 a bit, and fouled the plugs!! Not oil, gassed, and it ran fine, then started going out one by one. head is rebuilt,, good compression,, must not be enough spark to run points alone,,,, ChadS

What oil are you running? IH 6-cylinder gas engines should not be run with anything other than Case-IH Low-Ash oil. If you run a non low-ash oil for any amount of time, you will foul plugs nonstop. If you keep running it, you'll get deposits on the valve seats, and before long, you'll burn valves. People b!+(h and complain that the 6-cylinder gas is a piece of junk because they can't keep plugs and valves in it, but if they could just bring themselves to spend a little more on the right oil, they'd see the light. 706 gas, 20,000+ hrs., overhauled four times, never had a burned valve, rarely foul plugs, likes Autolites better than Champions.

Naa not really! I support the farmer, and burn ethanol!! Even buy it through farm buerau COOP! for the pullers. This engine is still pretty stock, on 92 pump gas. runs very good at an idle, and all the way through the rpms, but still zaps a plug now n then. Been running D-15y in it. Maybe the coil is dying in it. ChadS

Years ago, right after they quit shipping leaded gas even to farmers, we used to have plugs foul up all the time on the gas tractors. Didn't matter if it was a 4 or 6. Seemed to be worse if you left the tractor idle for any length of time.

Frankly, I don't know what stopped it, but we had one tractor that was used pretty regularly and I can't remember the last time it had a fouled plug. Granted, it was a loader tractor, and knocked like a jackhammer at idle, so it never sat idling...

Used Champion D21 in the tractor engines and Sta-bil in the gasoline. Seemed to stop the plugs from fouling.

Chad, Try switching to Autolite plugs they last much longer than Champions. I run Autolites in everything and have no problems. Hope this helps you out.
