The tractor has been hard to start
lately and floods easily. Now it won't start or even fire at all. The spark looks weak. I put in points. cond, cap and coil a while back. Now I put in new plugs and rechecked the point gap. I have mag tore apart. The magnets seem strong. The only thing that looks wore are the weights on the inside. I think they advance the timing. The weights pivot on two little shafts and they are quite sloppy. You can see where they rub on the inside of the housing because they are sloppy. The magneto does make noise when I try to start it. I think it is the weights rubbing.
I don't know if when they are rubbing if it is throwing the timing off. I adusted the timing both ways to see if it would fire. But there is
nothing not even smoke. I haven't checked the compression yet. When it is running it runs smooth. It is getting gas. Can you think of anything to check?
Thanks
Scott

That happens with the pawls on the trip mechanism. I dont beleve thats what your problem is. I would say to check,File,Sand, All conections . Wires In side The coil, The coil cap, The wire that hooks to the points, Check the points only use a file not sand paper. Make sure there at 13 thousands. Then take the coil wire out of the dist cap and hold it about 1/4" away from The screw on the side that the switch wire hooks to and either turn the mag by hand or on the tractor. And see what you have for spark and what color it is. It should be blue or a little yellow will usally work. I have seen bad plug wire and or coil wires do what you are describing also. Let me know if you need anything else. I have parts and complete mags avalible. JON

I just thought of something else. Its terible getting old. How about your rotor timing have you changed that when you have had it apart? Do you know how to time the rotor? JON

I made scratch marks when I took it apart, but I didn't do it very acurately. I may be off a tooth. How do you time it? How much do you get for a IH magneto? I did try a different coil wire also. I will try your suggestions.
Thanks alot
Scott

Depending On what you want I have different prices I would rather not list them on the site becuase of YTs Rules. But if you email me I will let you know . Also inside the rotor gear housing the small gear has a tooth that is ground down more than the others Match that in between the rotor gear where the R line comes down.
