I am trying to decide between a couple of exhaust manifolds for my H, and have seen two different colors on a new manifold. 1 is a silver color, appears to be cast all the way through that color ???
Other is black in color..
Is there a difference or is one preferable over the other??
Also, does anyone know if these a/m manifolds are made in the USA, specifically the ones from SteelWheelRanch??
THanks in advance guys!

I doubt if it's US made. Ask him, he doesn't mind.

I use Rustoleum's Black "Grill" paint. It is for high temperature charchol grills, is reasonably priced and easy to apply.

I used that paint on the manifold of my M. After about 5 hours of plowing some of that paint did burn off, but the part you can see below the hood still looks good.

Red is the correct color.

Brian - H manifolds are all made of cast iron. Any "color" you see on 'em new is paint. And unless it's a special high temperature paint the first time you work the tractor hard the paint burns off. The manifold will then shortly turn rust-colored.

Can't speak for the origin of Steel Wheel Ranch's manifolds. However purchased one a few years ago from Tisco. Though it was made in China and doesn't appear exactly as the original (it's missing the small plugged opening in the intake riser) it fits, works and sounds fine.

The original manifold was pure, unpainted cast iron. It got painted red when the rest of the tractor was painted, and most of that paint then burnt off as the tractor was used. Most but not all of the new manifolds are made in China or Taiwan, and while not having quite the same appearance as an original, still seem to fit and function quite well. I do not know about the manifolds sold by Steel Wheel Ranch.
