I agree the 6.5 was reliable for the most part,
but was also lacking for power. There is just not
any comparison to the Duramax with 310 Hp.and the
605 Ft.pounds of torque it cranks out.

Victor: The price you will pay to install a diesel in any pickup that came from factory as a gasser, you may just as well go buy a diesel pickup. I would almost bet you will buy 2000 model for less money.

i currently own 2 6.2"s and 2 6.5"s. 2 farm work trucks are the 6.2"s and 1 is my nice truck (6.5 and other is suburban for my wife. 6.2"s not alot of power but darn reliable. ill tell you what though make sure glow plugs work and arent broke off in the head and expect to give her a touch of either or if shes pulgged in your ok very long lasting but not alot of power. 6.5"s good motors 97+ had better cooling systems then earlier ones. good truck when taken care of like anything. 6.5"s are good motors but again as said earlier they wont pull like a duramax and upgrades to a 6.5 are there but not like a duramax. just make sure to get one w/right rear for what your doin also easier to go from gas to diesel then diesel to gas as you dont ahve to add ignition modules o2 sensors etc

Using ether in an engine equipped with glow plugs is a good way to ruin the engine or hurt yourself.

Chevy's 6.5 deisel wasn't too bad. Pretty common for them to go 200,000+ miles. They have fair power, but nothing like a Duramax. There's a few things you can do to make the 6.5 run better, but you can throw all the money in the world at them and they wont pull with a Duramax. Sure you can put a deisel in a '95 Chevy pickup. But it'd be much much easier to just buy one that already has the deisel engine in it.

Not sure what it has to do with Farmall tractors, but sure, you can put a diesel engine in a '95 Chevy pickup. Don't you watch any of those car customization shows on TV? They do stuff like that all the time.

As far as good diesels, the 6.2L was much improved over the crappy 5.7L Oldsmobile, but AFAIK, it wasn't a workhorse like the Cummins 5.9L in the Dodges. It just gave you the diesel sound and smell so you looked like you had a "real" truck :)

Only if it is painted Red and has an International or Farmall nameplate. LOL
