Have y'all tried the instant mashed potato flakes set out next to a dish of water yet?

FIRE!!! in reply to fdew, 12-07-2004 19:19:58
I found out about squirrels the hard way.

Had left an H at the edge of a field I'd been brush hogging, with flat front tires. Went back in 3 months, aired up the tires and took off for the house (11 miles) intending to re-air the tires at the mid-point filling station.

It started to smoke from under the hood as I turned onto the highway, and in road gear the smoke turned to flames from the exhaust area right on to the fuel tank. Needless to say I pulled right over and emptied my water jug by throwing it up under the hood. Had a nest that had caught fire. Was able to find a stick and get most of the nest out to stomp out on the ground. The remaining sticks smoked all the way home.

My guess is a well sighted in .270 or .22-250 would do the trick. Try that!

Shotgun, preferably 12 GA. (I'm not a good shot and want them dead the first time!) :>)

Seen vehicles destroyed in after a month of setting. The entire engine bay level full with a giant nest.

I'll tell you what to do. Go to your local AG suppy or hardware store and get a bag of sulfer.
Doesn't have to be a 50lb bag or anything unless you really have a bad squirrel problem. About a pound will do. Next, go get a large enough canvas tarp to cover your tractor with. Take the sulfer and sprinkle it all over the tarp on both sides. It will be dusty but over time the dust will go away and the sulfer residue will remain. Squirrels can't deal with sulfer on their skin and fur. It burns and makes them itch. I thought that it sounded crazy when I was told about it but low and behold I haven't got a single squirrel
in the barn or on my tractors in about a year. Good luck!

fdew, I have a set of rear tires just like yours. Didn`t anybody buy tires in sets? I had mice in the van does that count?

I just spent $450 getting my 2002 gmc repaired after having it towed in, squirrels chewed up the wiring harness under to fuse block. I put a couple moth balls under the fuse block don't know if it will help or not -- Rick

This is why I shoot those rascals. Matter of fact just shot one this morning. .22 lead hollow point right to the head gives them a quick clean ending! Otherwise they'll end up in your attic chewing wires and the next thing you know your house is on fire!

Great looking tractor, wish I had one of those carring do dads on the back of yours. I have the same blade on my super C and love it. I don't have squirles in the tractor but I do have bat's in the bell tower if you know what I mean.
