Does all Fast Hitch Equipment need a vertical stablizer bar above the male Fast Hitch arrow? I just got a box blade to clear some rugged land in the back pasture and it looks new and the gent I bought it from said that it came that way. Wasn't sure if I should keep using it as is or have my neighbor weld a vertical stabilizer bar on it? Thanks Ramon

Hugh, I'll try to get a picture when I get home if its still light but to explain further, about 8 inches behind the fast hitch male prong (that goes into the socket on the tractor), is typically a vertical shaft that also seats just above the tractor socket. This vertical shaft is what I called the vertical stabilizer. Does that clear it up? Thanks Ramon

Ramon: Sure does, I know the part you refer to now. Most IH fast hitch implememts had that. When I built my S tine cultivators for single point, I fabricated just that piece. Designed to fit between the flat plates just above hitch socket on tractor. Plates have a slight curve so implement stabilizer will slide in.

Another item I added to my rear mount cultivators was a bumper on each side to come up against the 1.5" round cross bar of hitch. Problem I found with cultivators and you may find same with box blade, if your implement pulls back even slightly on one side you will find it tends to dig deeper on that side, as it digs deeper, it pulls back even further, thus the problem just gets worse. I have the upright stabilizer on every fast hitch implement except 6' field cultivator. What I like for a bumper on each side against round cross bar is a section of 1/2x1/2x2 inch angle about two inches long, thus angle comes in against bottom as well as back side of cross bar. It makes the implement very rigid with hitch pull bar. This is particularly important if your hitch forks are a bit loose in sockets, and 50 years later a few of them are getting that way. These will not make much difference with plow or disk, near impossible to install on plow anyhow. They are quite good with implements that dig off center 2 to 3 feet.

I can tell you this, it never hurts to have both as anything you do to make implement rigid with hitch pull bar will improve performance.

Ramon,

Not necessarily. I had plow and cultivator for my fast hitch. I never locked either emplement solid with a stabilizer.

Tried that with a Ford 850 once. Was cultivating corn. With cultivator locked rigid there was no give and cultivator would either throe tractor off or cultivator would follow tractor and if you couldnt drive straight you would take out some corn.

Steve: The fast hitch Ramon is refering to is the single point fast hitch on his Farmall 100. The stabilizer he is refering to is the upright welded on top of the fast hitch prong or fork, and slides in between two guides on hitch as fork enters. This apparatus is unique to the 1 point fast hitch, and is designed to keep implement solid with and in line in relation to the pull bar. Ramon had me puzzled with his first post as I was trying to figure out what a "vertical" stabilizer would be. At first all I could imagine a "vertical" stabilizer would be is a device to lock the hitch in a raised position. I have such a device on my Farmall 130, I use it when spraying, to take some of the presure off hydraulics.

I realize what you are saying and quite agree with you. 1 point fast hitch performs no better with lateral stabilizer locked up.

Hugh

Thanks for the reply. The only fast hitch Farmall I was(am) familier with was my 706. And the smaller Fords with 3ph.

Have a Merry Christmas
