I have rebuilt both a W-4 and an OS-4 and thay are the easiest tractors to work on. I did complete overhauls and never removed the engines. I have a manual that I can copy and send to you if can not locate one but the engine manual for an H should be the same.

1: The reason your #2 and #3 are in rough shape is water leaking down your muffler. It tears apart the valvues and #2 and #3 cylinders. We've all been there!
2: If you are getting knock, that sounds like bearings. However check your oil pressure. If its good you may not have to open the engine. Sleeves and pistons can be done with the engine in place. But when you undo your connecting rods, mark the bearings carefully, so they go back in the same.
3: I have always used a machine shop to check the head and do the valve seating.

As far as manuals go, there should be a lot of them out there. I got mine 35 years ago form the IH dealer.Perhaps others can help you there.

If everything else is in good shape its well worth doing. I have rebuilt mine twice in its 60 yars of history. I use it almost every day. There's a photo of it in the gallery.

Thanks for the insight ,it terrific. The oil presure shoots right up till the tractor gets warmed up and then it gradually drops off , this has been a slow but steady progression over the past couple of years.Unfortunatly this summer the old girl really had a rough couple of days skiding logs ,as l had to build a lane up through the bush and was pressed for time ,l left the heavy skiding for the large tractor ,but the super W4 could get right in close to hook up and skid the timber to the Ford. Thanks again ,and merry Christmas.
