I'm painting my farmall H. I used Case IH red 2150 and dupont 793s hardner, that worked good. Then I painted the rims with Case IH aluminum and dupont 793s hardner, and now it's been 3 days and the paint isn't dry yet. Did I use the wrong hardner, if so what should I have used for a hardner and a thinner? Can anybody tell me what they use. THANKS ALOT

I use the C/IH silver(#B17565) on rims.It looks like the silver on new replacement rims except much shinier. Also use Econo-body 15117 Super Gloss hardner from NAPA. It works good with the silver and the 2150. I'm assuming that the C/IH aluminum is a different type of paint than these other two.

the enamel paint system is obsolete. I use only acrylic urethane on mytractors. It is a bit more expensive but it will never fade as long as you live, and has a lifetime warrenty. I use ppg only products and all colors are available for international tractors. Also a note paint will not dry below 70 degrees, 16 hours at 70 degrees to touch 72 hours for full cure, unless you bake it with a infrared light. hope this helps.

Twenty year body man -- Does PPG 71310 (IH 2150) have very much of an orange tint to it? Mine changes from batch to batch, trying to find out whether or not my supplier is being consistent in mixing. Seems to be true for both acrylic urethane and acrylic enamel. The last tractor I painted has more orange than I think it should. But, I have no other 2150 equivalents to compare it to.

try using a sythetic hardener for the wheels. NAPA sells it. The hardener you were trying to use is for acrylic enamel. It won't work with the paint IH sells. Hope this helps.

Perhaps the hardener was not designed to be used with the aluminum paint -- that's one reason I don't like to mix brands. Did you have a temperature change, proper curing of hardened paint will not occur below 55 degrees. Did you paint the rims late in the day and then turn off your heat, the 55 degrees applies there too. Did you paint the tractor and rims at about the same time, both with new hardener? Many hardeners have a shelf life of only 2 weeks after opening, although they can last longer. Otherwise I don't know.

I painted the tractor and rims at 65 degrees. I was told it was the wrong hardner. What type of hardner should I use.

Don't use a hardener.
