Anyone else have this problem of not being able to get the tractor out of gear, other than taking the 4 bolts out around the gear shift?

This is a common problem on anything with the 5-speed/shift lever on the transmission cover, from an H or M up through the 504 and 606. The tractor vet gave you good advice. Fix it right away, before it gets into two gears at once and does major damage.

Yep , one of my custermers has a 606 and it did the same thing . I fixed it by taken the shifter off and building it up with weld and milling it back into shape , they get wore from old age and to much use when new and the sides and the ft. and back of the shifter get wore down and if you come out of rev or what ever gear with a littel pull that is off center guess what your stuck in two gears the welding and reshapen realy helps.

My 300U sorta does the same thing. You can go forward into a snowbank and work the bucket, but sometimes when you go to back up its like the clutch isnt fully releasing....the shifter fights moving out of 1st.It takes 2 hands to get it into reverse (sometimes). If I remove the shifter to look at it,and its in neutral, will I have any problem putting it back in? (assuming I will have to weld the worn areas back up).

Paul, your main clutch and TA clutch linkages are out of adjustment. When you depress the clutch pedal, the main clutch and TA clutch both disengage. As you know, whenever the the TA clutch disengages, it is possible for the TA ramp and rollers to engage. Your pedal linkage is not totally disengaging the TA clutch, just enough that the ramp and rollers grab, creating the effect of being in Direct Drive and TA at the same time. This causes the whole transmission to bind up, making it hard to get out of gear. This makes the worn shifter problem much worse. I would say that you don't need to build up the end of your shift lever yet, just go through the adjustments.

My 350u seems to be a little tough at times to shift. Would that help me also?
