I now own my first Farmall. See information provided by the seller below.

Serial 118550

Motor turns but I have not tried to start her. Transmission engages, Appears somewhat complete,�has rear wheel weights, one rear tire is newer and the other�is weathered both are holding air,�front tire needs replaced but is still holding some air, steering box needs rebuilding, tractor will not steer.� Toolbox under seat and the battery box both have some rust thru, top of the air cleaner is missing and it is not connected.� Radiator shroud is bent up some but not horribly, hood is pretty straight and gas tank too.

I think I am going to enjoy working on this. Any help or watch-
outs in advance would be appreciated. I hope I am not too much of a pest to you knowledgeable folks on this board.

Skycarp, congrats on the Super C. I restored my dad's 52 SC two years ago and had a great time with it (go to Tractor Photos and search "Peabody" to see a picture). I got great help and a lot of confidence from the advice on this board during the restoration. Good luck!

Just finished plowing my driveway with mine this morning. 13" of fresh snow and it hardly knew it was there. The Super C is a fantastic tractor. Check out my webshots link to see the progress of my restoration.

Thanks for the source of manuals, Don. I am in contact with Binder Books now via their internet site. I am looking at engine manuals and I find one for several engines, 4 cylinder carb. Here is the listing:

SS-1039 4 Cyl Carb Engines 60, 123, 135, 135B, 153, 146, 164, 169, 175, 248, 264, 281 and 335 Series $28.95

1. Is this the engine manual for my Super C engine?

2. Do I need to have this manual to work on my engine?

It appears you are looking at the right engine manual. I would call them and discuss with them what manuals you think you need. The folks at Binder Boooks are most helpful and won't sell you anything that is covered in a different manual. They know their products very well. I actually had a list of manuals which in some cases were duplicates of portions of others which I didn't need. I have all the manuals but I'm still looking for a Super C tractor. I found the information from the books quite helpful in assessing tractors for sale for completeness and available features. I hope you enjoy your project.

I did call Binder Books and they were very knowledgable and helpful.

I have done an Ford 8N and am in the middle of a Ford 851 now, but I am at a new location when I moved over to the Farmall. It will be a challenge.

Thanks for the reply and I'm sure you will find the Super C a nice project. I have finished up both an H and M after they were started and the previous owners lost interest. I am presently looking for a Super C for my first total project tractor. I think they are a most versatile and useable tractor for simple tasks around the farm. I have a couple of newer Ford diesels which are my heavy duty work tractors. My favorites from my childhood days in the 40's and 50's were the Farmalls I learned to drive on my grandfather's farm. Dad got a new 8N in 1952 and we still have it here on the farm and I use it now mostly with a finish mower. Just haven't had the interest to restore it yet as I've found the parts and equipment network on the Farmalls a real nice group of folks. I've unblock my email if you want to chat off forum. Congradulations!! My first was a Super C also. If your sector gear is worn or teeth are missing, you should be able to spin it 180 degrees. Good Luck!!

Oh, that is good advice. I have went through the steering bad sectors on Fords. It is costly, but at least they are being made aftermarket, I can imagine this is not the case on the Farmalls.

What do you have to say about the single front wheel on the Super C I have purchased? Good, bad, problems, etc?

Serial number says it's a '51. I just bought a '52 a week ago. Brakes are usually not too good on them, most likely because of bull pinion seal leaking oil onto disks, easily fixed. Steering box sounds like it may be a serious problem. When you're finished you'll be happy with it though. One of the handiest tractor IH ever made IMHO, especially with the fast-hitch. Keep us informed of your progress.

Gonna do that soon. I will drive to NM on Monday and pick her up. The seller said that the previous owner had had the head rebilt but never got around to running it. Lots of unknowns but it is over 50 years old so I am looking forward to firing her up soon.

I hope his fire up better than mine did. Had little fire and plenty of gas. Points way too close, adjusted. No go. Checked timing, 180 out. Still no go. Checked compression - 70,80,75,0. At this point I'm about sick. Pulled rocker cover, valves too tight, especially #4. Adjusted. Fired right up. Good oil pressure, no leaks, etc. There for awhile it seemed as though this was one of those tests where someone wil misadjust everything on an engine, then you get to troubleshoot it. Still need a few adjustments and small things fixed, but will make a good solid tractor. Grille is bent but hood is perfect, as is tank and fenders. The good news is that if you have problems, you can usually get the answers from someone here that has been there, done that !!

THere is a restored super C inside our local Case dealership located behind 3 large case tractors, couldnt help but think it looked a lot more handsome than the new cases with its mid mointed grader blade business looking horizontal slotted radiator shroud and heavy rear axle but that spring seat what a shocker.
We use to have one back in the 50s and 60s with a mid mounted sickle bar mower great combination especially on the corners.
We changed the ignition to get more power, Our local dealer sold it to us he is still behind the counter our family has been dealing with him for 60 years.
