Hi Guys does anyone know what Farmalls and what years used the cable shut off to the switch on the side of the H4 magneto? Or Is anyone rebuilding such a beast? Was it H and M 1939 or were there more models and years? JON

Yeah, what Paul said. The serial break for the change should be in the parts books. For the A and B it was 35,260, which was late '40.

That would make sense, my '40 B has the button, not the cable and it's in the 38,000 serial number range. No evidence on the tractor that it ever had a cable either.

it was to my understanding that that was considered an accesory on early letter series before the buttons.before that it was just a peice of bent metal that you pushed on the mag and was connected where the switch wire would connect and it ground the mag when pushed.

The cable kill switch was on all the new letter series tractors of 1939 using the H-4 magneto, and was continued on the 1940 models as well. To the best of my knowledge, the push button kill switch appeared on the 1941 models. There were, however, still some F and W series still in production in 1939 that used the F-4 not the H-4 mag.
