Donaldson air cleaner update

Well my oil cup finally decided to come off. It was just waiting for spring! The inch and half of water and ice(and rust) inside it definitely did not look oilly! It looks like there may have been an aluminum coating in the bottom, any one know. And will the upper portion with the screens and mesh clean up by just flushing with diesel fuel or parts cleaner fluid? Doesn't appear to be much crud, but may be some rusty film in those screens. My naturally ventilated , all-seasons storage shed does not have central heating...yet. So, this makes for slow progress on elementary repairs, just so CNKS does not get after me about not getting this off earlier. I do appreciate the comments.

I don't remember any comments, but then there are lots of things I don't remember-- what was it I said to who? Operator's Manual says to take the whole thing off every 60 hours and wash in kerosene. I don't think very many people do that. When I get a tractor to work on I take it off and pour parts cleaner thru it -- no ideal how effective that is, probably better than doing nothing. Not uncommon at all to find holes rusted through the cup.

Mid-January. You said it should come right off, no problem... . It did.Just had to melt a bit first. Thank you for the reply.

I think some of the tractors I've seen had your problem -- some people use hammers, otherwise they would not be dented.

I'm 24 and I cannot remember the air cleaner cup EVER being off my SM. I might want to check that sometime, huh?

I don't ever remember servicing anything but the cup, I doubt if anyone actually takes them off. Probably not a bad idea.
