My 3 point hitch takes forever to engage. I put the lever to up position and sit and wait. Once it starts to come up It comes up fairly quickly.
It goes down good and the lever controls it good. The pump is good I believe and the filter I looked at, It seems ok, not clogged anyway.
Any suggestions??? Thanks Andy

As i keep sayen on Hdy. systems ya can waits lots of time and money chasen ghosts but the only way is to have it flowratedby either the dealer or someone that has a flowrater. then you know if it is the pump or releif valve or flow divider or just a sticking unloader valve then you can go and fix it .

Hi Andy,

That's what mine was doing too and it was the silly pump; are you sure your pump is good?

On a 666, that pump just runs the hitch and the hitch only; everything else is pushed by the front pump.

Have you tried to lift another tractor with it yet?

Allan

I will try a big hay bale

Is their any adjustments for the spool valve??
I think its a spool valve that ports fluid to the ram??? Could that be a problem???

Mornin' Andy,

Boy, I dunno. Your symptoms are the exact same ones that I was having. Darned thing seemed to take forever to lift; when it finally did, it came right on up and the lever seemed to control it just fine.

Then, when I put it under a load, it never would lift.

I just think it is the pump, 'cause that is the major wear point in the system and with the steel gears running inside that aluminum housing, it is historically the problem child.

Like doc says, I spent two weeks "chasing ghosts" and "hoping it was something else" before I would admit it was the darned pump.

Put a new pump in and now it will lift a freight train.

Dunno,

Allan

Alan I found the problem. There is a check valve located right next to the 3 point controller, takes a 1 1/8 wrench to get it out. I borrowed one from a 656 and it works fine now. A new cost $191. I am looking for a used one. Thanks for your help Andy
