Pulling your leg? Nahhh… My dad only had three tractors that he farmed with in the 1950’s. An F-12 dedicated to an old Freeman loader, a B Farmall that did all the lighter work like sewing grain, pulling an old 4-row planter, mowing, etc, and the M. The M ran almost daily. He used it for custom corn shelling, disking, plowing (pulled 3-14s in 3rd gear), bailing, cultivating (4-row), mounted the corn picker on it etc, etc… The M was the workhorse until he bought a 560 in 1963. Finally in the mid 1970’s he went through the entire rear-end and replaced all the bearings. Seems one of the axle bearings went bad and he decided after 25 years of service to replace them all. Oh, forgot to mention that he went with the Firecrater overbore as soon as it was available, and put rotators on the exhaust valves also, so it was putting out more power than stock for a lot of time. That same M is still in service under a DuAll 325 loader although not used every day, it is still as dependable as it was when it was new. Come to think of it, he may have actually been a bit conservative on his 150% :>)
