hey, y'all DID get some snow/rain out there. I normally run I-80 clear across I only came up out of salina and ran west from york last month maybe that caused a time-delay or something. Drilled some oats here friday. 2 years ago we had corn in the ground second week of april (30 miles off erie lakeshore right off I-79) everyone told us it was gonna bite us in the backside but we took more silage off that feild than any other we've ever chopped corn off of. Didn't have to buy any corn because of that. I plowed because I bought a big a/c(the price was right, ok?) and had to test it out. Plowed parts of that feild that hadn't ever been plowed before. snowed here overnight but none stuck. miserable weather 80 here a couple days ago too.

Allan, We have about 500 acres of corn and 300 acres of soy beans in the ground here in Mid Michigan. First time in a long time that so much has been planted this early in April. All the sugar beets are in, although our outfit doesnt grow them, but at last report, nearly 25% of corn crop already planted. We"re expecting 4 to 8 in of snow this weekend, but its not expected to last or stay on the ground. The biggest concern is that soy beans emerge and then get a late frost. We still have nearly 2,000 acres of soys and 500 acres of corn yet to plant. Last year I was planting soybeans on July 8th. Hopefully we"ll have only some scattered replanting to do after June 10th this year. It is no lie, we are out there in full force having a high old time. You Nebraska fellers better get cracking. Times a wasting.

Allan, In South Central Texas ---Today, 88 degrees high. Hottest for the year to date. Dry, perfect farming weather. Cool front blew in late this PM will have a 61 degree mornin tomorrow, but the high will be at least 10 degree cooler.

Allan, that w*h*i*t*e on red/white sure is pretty. As my late grandma used to say "when the robins tail has been snowed on three times, it"s spring". But forcast is for mixed flurries w/rain and 35 mph winds tonight and mid - upper 20"s. Guess the weatherman didn"t get to hear my grandma. Are those condoms on those tractor seats? You are particular!

Nothing but rain here, for now anyway. Cold enough it could turn to snow. You may be able to get a planting job in Illinois, replanting that is, after that 1 inch high corn gets frost bit.

AH ya can keep that out there if you don't mind there is no need for it over here but it is comming anyway. It was cold enough for me yesterday my hands fell like a 4x8 sheet of plywood today but i need to finish what i started and it is cooler out today since it is going to be COLDER tomarrow with SNOW. Guess I'll go take two Tylonal and suffer.

Allen we started hauling rounnd bales of wheat/alfala mix yesterday, could only wish for the snow you have. Sure hate hay season. But any job I guess is a good thing.

Allan you don't have anything on us over here in Wyoming. In Laramie here we got 8 inches two nights ago. Pretty much gone now. Torrigton got over an inch of rain so I'm sure that made a lot of farmers breathe a little easier.

Yeah, we're done calving. Did pretty well too. Calved out 250 cows and ended up with 247 calves and 249 cows so we can't complain. Lost one cow somehow, and 4 calves, but we had a set of twins so we came out pretty decent. Sure could use some grass. We've got them on dryland pasture, but we're still feeding daily. Hopefully this moisture will bring on the irrigated pastures so we can get ready for turn out.

The neighbor up the road has been running his old cows out on his winter wheat all winter. Just took 'em off last week.

That could be very true. We get calls every day of people needing hay. Horse people didn't plan for enough, and need a little. Plus a lot of ranchers still like the small bales and they're wanting semi loads. Too bad for all of them we don't have any hay left. There is a ton of big square bales in the country and they don't seem to have any luck moving those. David

Take the moisture while you can. We have gotten some rain 6 out of the last 7 days here in Omaha. The nice thing about snow this time of year here in Nebraska is that you know that it isn't going to be around for long. I just keep my fingers crossed for Nebraska Cowman and the others in Western Nebraska. They need to get their crops in and then let it set in and rain every couple of days for the rest of the year. Just nice soakers. I know that is a big wish list but a person needs to think positive.

Yep, it's been raining and snowing here on and off for a week or so now. Way too early to plant up here anyway.

It's the guys over across the line in Wyoming that really need it now. They are running their pivots just to get it softened up enough to get the darned machinery in the ground.

They say it is coming for us in Indiana - corn spiking here in some places. They have backed off of the hard freeze for Sat night, now forecasting 30 degrees. If the wind doesn't settle too much we might not get to much frost - wet ground should help. Stupid mid-west weather!

In the Laura Ingals Wilder book, Farmer Boy, When they had an untimely cold snap and frost after the corn was up, the entire family got up and loaded barrels of water in the wagon, walked the rows, pouring water on each plant. The ones that they did before the sun came up were saved. The ones after sunup were lost. Never tried it myself so don't know if will work or not. With the unseasonal weather, I just thought it interesting. Of course they only had 4 acres of corn and 6 members of the family.
