I noticed last night that i can see small bubbles around the head gasket on one side just below the spark plugs when the tractor is running. Do i need to fix this immediately, also do i need to remove the gas tank just to remove the valve cover?

i have done headgaskets with out taking the tank off. it takes some feness but it can be done. you will have to take the four bolts that hold the tank in so you can lift the front of the tank about 3 inches or so. the valve cover will come out without unbolting the tank.

I rebuilt a 706 gasser that did the same thing ter an overhaul, I retorqued the head, and it seemed to solve it. If its not been apart, and it gets worse, youll take the chance of warping the head from the heat, and pressure escaping. Sounds like you mite think about pulling it apart. I use copper coat spray on all headgaskets, whether it requires it or not,, and it helps quite a bit in cases like this. Hope this helps,,, ChadS

i've only had the tractor a week, do you have to remove the gas tank to get the valve cover off?

Just the heat shield under the gas tank. It will be tight, but not impossible, you have to take the tank loose and prop it up to get the head studs out due to being so long on the rocker arm side. Thats if you have to remove the head,,, leat, that was my experience when I did it. Chad
