My neighbor/friend has a 1466 thats sort of for sale,at least for sale to me. Now the description: Needs 4 tires, all worn out.Needs tie rod ends.Starts and runs good. Shows 9000 hrs. Oil pressure ok when hot. No bad gear noises.Does jump out of high gear going down hill.TA seems ok,but did"nt pull it hard.It has a radiator leak that I can probably fix myself. AC needs charged, blows cold for a few days and leaks out. You can tell by looking at it,it has done alot of hard work in it"s lifetime, but it is still a solid old tractor. I plan to farm my 80 acres of beans and hay with it,pretty light work for a 1466. Is it worth $4500 ?????

Hi Chris

Last year I purchased a 1971 International 1466. I researched the tractor on the Internet and found a recently rebuilt motor and rear end at the price of $8900. All I needed to do is put $1500 worth of tires on it. So my cost is $10400 for 130 horsepower. Pretty cheap for today’s market in my option. I used the tractor for a solid 200 hours plowing and leveling my 80 acres field for alfalfa. I farm heavy clay soil near lake Erie so it was quite a work out for the old gal and she performed beyond my dreams. Every gauge, light, and accessory worked as designed, which was important because I did a lot of work at night.
My only drawback from the 1466 is the lack of a 540 pto.

My thoughts to you are (1) There were plenty of those tractors made so parts are readily available. (2) If you junk the tractor its weight alone would bring you $2400 figuring 12000# at .20cents a pound =$2400 that’s have your cost. (3) If you spend $5000 on her you would have a great machine that cost you $9500, about $73 a horsepower and farming 80 acres we can not afford big ticket items (4) I find the manuals very easy to read, I would not be afraid to stick my hands inside and learn to repair her myself. As I will when I replace the 1000 pto with a combo 540/1000 pto. (5) If you don’t want her Me or somebody I know would love to buy her. $4500 does not buy very much these days but in your case I think it’s a steal.

I agree, with the problems stated repairs can literally run into the thousands the first day in the field (the TA and jumping out of gear especially). Old wornout big units like this bring very little in trade or consignment.
